Balkans Real Estate, known for its brand and registered trademark MPC Properties, is one of Serbia’s largest real estate development companies. Founded in 2002, the Company has invested in more than 25 projects with a total gross buildable area of c. 1,250,000 m2. MPC Properties is actively involved in the retail, office, residential and logistic real estate sectors. In December 2007, MPC Properties formed a joint venture with a subsidiary of Merrill Lynch & Co, Inc. The joint venture was formed in December 2007 and consists of an 80% interest held by MPC Holdings and a 20% interest held by Merrill Lynch.

MPC Holdings is one of the leading companies in southeastern Europe with diversified holdings in the real estate, retail, automotive, sports equipment and tobacco industries. MPC Holdings are the importers and distributors of a number of leading brands, such as Citroen, Springfield, Cortefiel, and Reebok. Additionally, MPC Holdings is one of the leading retail operators with a network of 60 retail stores in 6 countries in southeastern Europe.
Merrill Lynch Global Real Estate Principal Investments
Merrill Lynch has made the investment in MPC Properties through its Global Real Estate Principal Investments group. The group is responsible for investing proprietary and third-party capital into real estate transactions. The team approximately 25 professionals in Europe and has made, since 2002, over US$2.3 billion of investments into real estate transactions on behalf of Merrill Lynch and two funds raised and managed by Merrill Lynch Global Real Estate Principal Investments.
